In 1983, Sean Martin & Jim Cook started a commercial fishing supply company in
Honolulu called Pacific Ocean Producers. In the beginning, they primarily served the commercial fishing operators in Hawaii. They quickly grew to serve operators across the Pacific in Mexico, Asia and the South Pacific.
Pacific Ocean Producers continued to expand their inventory beyond commercial fishing to meet the demands of the marketplace: sport fishing, general boating, industrial marine and, most recently, marine safety. They realized that the “Pacific Ocean Producers” name no longer described what they actually evolved into. For two years they tried but couldn’t come up with a new name that they all agreed upon.
They approached 4Front Branding for help. After our team conducted initial consumer intercepts, we found that their customers had actually renamed them “POP”. We then proceeded to build their brand identity around their new name “POP Fishing & Marine”.
We found that there is no single symbol that represents them. Multiple symbols are used to show their multi-faceted nature and help them retain familiarity with their valued core customers in specific areas.
